Introduction

The Root Cause channel in Copilot helps users investigate alerts or inference alerts in a conversational, on-demand manner. The Root Cause channel is interactive and responds directly to user questions about the issue at hand.

Key Capabilities

Aggregating Incident Information

Collects and summarizes relevant alert context, correlated alerts, key symptoms, metrics, logs, and event patterns to present a comprehensive view of the issue.

Correlated Alert Awareness

When invoked from the Alerts browser, the Root Cause channel automatically includes all correlated alerts, which helps Copilot understand the broader failure pattern and improves the accuracy of the explanation.

Conversational Investigation

Allows users to ask follow-up questions, request clarifications, or explore alternate angles (e.g., affected resources, timeline, symptoms, evidence).

Guided RCA Assistance

Provides structured explanations of likely causes, contributing factors, and potential areas to investigate even when PRC is not available.

Investigation Hints

Supports providing user hints such as suspected causes, recent changes, or observed symptoms, enabling deeper and more accurate analysis.

How to Invoke the Root Cause Channel

  1. Open Command Center → Alerts.
  2. Select an alert or inference.
  3. Click the Copilot icon.
  4. Choose Root Cause from the channel dropdown.

Copilot automatically uses the selected alert and its correlated alerts as the starting point.
